This was my artist statement for the show.
Decay is something we can’t escape. It is a natural part of life in structures both physical and metaphorical. There are faults in flaws that lead to the inevitable break down of buildings, families and even one’s own identity; I believe that this, although unfortunate is necessary at times. Just as plants in nature die, rot and give compost to new plants, we must accept that we, and everyone else will decay. Everything around us will dissolve and we must take this as an opportunity for growth. Whether we lose ourselves and find someone new or lose something or someone we love and grow because of that. There is always growth to be had from decay. I seek to create a combined narrative out of times I have experienced this kind of decay and try to take out of them as possible.
Essentially it’s just a bunch of stories I know of people who have died or gone crazy.
These were the walls of the cube I put in the middle of the room.
This is a bunch of stuff from my thesis show without the middle part of the installation. I just realized I hadn’t put any on here before. Prints of just the images are up in the shop too now.
